In order to obtain a vehicle that has been impounded you must have proof of ownership (such as title, registration and/or valid bill of sale) and usually the person whose name is on the title must be present with a picture ID. If the owner is not available, they may send a notarized letter stating the VIN, kind of car, who they are releasing it to and their name (you MUST still have the title or registration). You must also have proof of current insurance on the vehicle you are picking up. If you do not have insurance, you may have the vehicle moved onto the street or towed to an address of your choice for an additional charge. If there is a hold on your vehicle, you must talk to the law enforcement agency and have them issue a release of the vehicle. All fees can be paid by cash, debit or credit card.
